May 2016 fash-n-chips.com 5 May, for me, was about work as well as fun, lots of interior inspiration and, like every year, the Cannes Film Festival! I loved finally seeing Julia Roberts attend the festival - it was about time and, my gosh, did she look like a true Hollywood star in that black off-shoulder Armani Privé, or what?!

Skirt shapes

I hardly ever wear one but I actually really love a good skirt. However, I'm not blessed with modelesque long legs and therefore think it's not easy to find a shape that works well for me. I love mid-length full skirts but seeing as they tend to "swallow up" my legs I can only really pull those off when I wear them with high heels. If I want to wear flat shoes with my skirt I have to go for an above-the-knee length, show a little more leg to make them appear a bit longer. However, going tóó short might reveal a bit of my thighs and I'd really rather have those covered up. The skirt in the picture above is one I recently found at Zara, it's considered short but not tóó short and it fits quite loosely as well. It's perfect for me.

If you want to know what shape might work best for you, have a look at the image and explanation below.. - I know it's a little different from what I usually post on my blog but I've been getting so many requests in my inbox lately about whether I could come up with some posts like this (that will help you figure out what clothes to choose for your size and shape) so please do let me know if this is something you like and I'll see if I can come up with something similar again soon. Thanks in advance!

// A rectangle body shape is a straight one where the full bust-line and full hip-line are about the same width and there's little waist definition. Legs and arms are typically slender. Think Natalie Portman! (Short) flared skirts and an emphasis on the waist are a good way to try and create an hourglass silhouette. // A pear shaped figure (also called a 'triangle') is a figure where the full bust-line is narrower than the full hip line and there's a well defined waist. Likely to have short legs and full thighs. Think Claire Danes! Personally I don't see why you should try and step away from the pear shaped figure as it's so feminine but in order to bring it a little bit closer to an hourglass shape a slightly flared skirt shape is recommended, as seen on the Céline Fall 2013 runway. // An inverted triangle shape is one with a proportionally large bust or broad shoulders, a well defined waist and narrow hips. Likely to have long slim legs and a flat bottom. Think Renee Zellweger (broad shoulders)! Peplum skirts or full skirts with striking details will draw attention to the hips and therefore, again, give the illusion of an hourglass figure. // An oval body shape (also called an 'apple') is an overall round shape with little to no waist definition, a low stomach and typically full thighs. Think Kelly Clarkson! A pencil skirt is a good choice for an oval shaped figure as it will focus attention on the legs. // A diamond shaped figure (also called an 'apple' btw!) is also an overall round figure with an undefined waist and a higher stomach. Think Oprah! High-waisted (pencil) skirts will help define a waist and therefore balance the shoulders and hips. // An hourglass shape is considered the perfect body type. With long lean legs in particular I'd say they could pull off any skirt shape. Lucky.
