Skirt shapes

I hardly ever wear one but I actually really love a good skirt. However, I'm not blessed with modelesque long legs and therefore think it's not easy to find a shape that works well for me. I love mid-length full skirts but seeing as they tend to "swallow up" my legs I can only really pull those off when I wear them with high heels. If I want to wear flat shoes with my skirt I have to go for an above-the-knee length, show a little more leg to make them appear a bit longer. However, going tóó short might reveal a bit of my thighs and I'd really rather have those covered up. The skirt in the picture above is one I recently found at Zara, it's considered short but not tóó short and it fits quite loosely as well. It's perfect for me.

Personally I don't see why you should try and step away from the pear shaped figure as it's so feminine but in order to bring it a little bit closer to an hourglass shape a slightly flared skirt shape is recommended, as seen on the Céline Fall 2013 runway. // An inverted triangle shape is one with a proportionally large bust or broad shoulders, a well defined waist and narrow hips. Likely to have long slim legs and a flat bottom. Think Renee Zellweger (broad shoulders)! Peplum skirts or full skirts with striking details will draw attention to the hips and therefore, again, give the illusion of an hourglass figure. // An oval body shape (also called an 'apple') is an overall round shape with little to no waist definition, a low stomach and typically full thighs. Think Kelly Clarkson! A pencil skirt is a good choice for an oval shaped figure as it will focus attention on the legs. // A diamond shaped figure (also called an 'apple' btw!) is also an overall round figure with an undefined waist and a higher stomach. Think Oprah! High-waisted (pencil) skirts will help define a waist and therefore balance the shoulders and hips. // An hourglass shape is considered the perfect body type. With long lean legs in particular I'd say they could pull off any skirt shape. Lucky.
