I finally got to see 'Interstellar' earlier this week. As a fan of space (...) and an admirer of Christopher Nolan's films I had high hopes to get wowed. And when watched in a theatre the film itself is quite an experience. In one particular scene (which I can't mention in detail as it would be a massive spoiler to anyone who hasn't seen it yet) I found myself holding my breath up to the point of feeling faint and anxiously staring at the 'exit' signs in the room because I was feeling slightly claustrophobic. But other than that I didn't feel much emotion. I did not really care for the personal stories of the characters, nor for the need to save humanity. When I watch a sci-fi film I like to actually forget about earth and humanity for a bit and the story of 'Interstellar' unfortunately failed to do that. However, Hans Zimmer's once again epic score for this film was what DID seem to send my mind into space. Wow. Check out the very interesting video (below) about how the score came together and how they used the Temple Church organ in London for a lot of it.
Also, something else 'Interstellar' related: how about that stunning dress from the Chanel Couture Fall 2014 collection which Anne Hathaway wore to the 'Interstellar' premiere in Shanghai last year? She made some great choices for this promo tour anyway, as I thought most of her dresses really suited the film's theme, but this Chanel one was by far my favourite. You can see her wearing the dress here.
I also can't possibly post about this film without mentioning MacKenzie Foy, the 14 year old actress who plays Matthew McConaughey's daughter, Murph. She is absolutely beautiful and I thought she did a fantastic job on this film. You can already tell she may be a big star someday! In her W Magazine feature I read she hopes to become a director, which for some reason makes her even more interesting.
Anyway. I don't think 'Interstellar' is Nolan's best film but it surely is an enjoyable one. Oh, and give Hans Zimmer another Oscar, thanks.
