Oscars 2013

It's Oscar Night! I haven't really been all that excited about any of the nominated films this year but I know I'm still going to enjoy the ceremony tonight - Pyjama party it is! And Seth MacFarlane as the new host this year is pretty interesting. I'm also loving this official special edition 'Oscars Best Pictures Tribute' poster (designed by Olly Moss in collaboration with Gallery1988) which features 85 Oscar statuettes inspired by all of the Best Picture winners from 1927 to 2012.
Now if it was up to me the winners tonight would include: 'Les Misérables' for Best Film. Simply because out of all the 9 nominated films this one touched me the most. (I do wonder why only 9 films got nominated instead of 10. Where's 'The Dark Knight Rises'? 'Skyfall'? 'Anna Karenina'?) / Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor. For me it would be between him and Joaquin Phoenix this time - both phenomenal performances. I also thought Jean-Louis Trintignant was outstanding in 'Amour' but unfortunately for some reason the Academy decided to nominate Bradley Cooper instead. / Naomi Watts for Best Actress. She blew me away in 'The Impossible'. It's between her and Emmanuelle Riva, who I thought was fantastic as well in 'Amour'. But I would feel sorry for her co-star Jean-Louis Trintignant if she won the Oscar while he never even got nominated and so maybe this film should just win the Best Foreign Language Film instead and they'll both be happy? I think Jessica Chastain is a good actress as well but I don't believe her role in 'Zero Dark Thirty' really suited her. I kept comparing this one to Claire Danes in 'Homeland' and then she seemed nowhere near as good. / Not sure who should win Best Supporting Actor this time? Maybe Philip Seymour Hoffman. I would have preferred to pick Leonardo DiCaprio ('Django Unchained') or Eddie Redmayne ('Les Misérables') but unfortunately neither of them got nominated! / Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress. I liked all the nominated performances in this category but Anne simply stood out.

Did you guys have any favourites?? And if you're not interested in any of this film stuff at all (we can't all be geeks like me) I hope you will just check back here tomorrow morning when I'll have a new outfit post up from London.
