The Impossible (Lo imposible)

I went to see 'The Impossible' yesterday and after being a bit underwhelmed by 'Gangster Squad' last week, I was now completely overwhelmed by this one (I was a crying mess)! Like the poster says, this film is one family's true story of survival during the Tsunami of 2004 in Thailand. Director Juan Antonio Bayona has made this into a horrifyingly realistic and emotional film and although I DID notice its flaws I honestly don't even feel like pointing them out. What makes 'The Impossible' stand out is the acting! The three kids (especially Tom Holland as the oldest son) and Ewan McGregor are fantastic and Naomi Watts delivers her best performance yet, she definitely deserves that Oscar nomination.

I like that they went for a simple story here of just one family instead of trying to capture the widespread loss and devastation of this horrible natural disaster. It doesn't take long at all to connect with the family and from the moment the tsunami hits you are living in pain wíth them, trying to replace despair with hope. I don't want to give anything away so I highly recommend that you find the time to go see this film (and bring tissues, because you will cry)..! Watch the trailer HERE.
