Amy Adams & The Fighter

I finally saw "The Fighter" this week, just in time for the Oscars! It's about a boxer in the 1980's, Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg), who is following in his brother Dicky's footsteps by trying to make it as a pro. It's definitely not just another fight film though, I feel it's more about family relations and just a bunch of people trying to improve their lives. It's a good story, though FAR from original, but what makes this a striking and powerful film is the excellent cast. Christian Bale stood out for me in his role as the crack addicted older brother and I would be surprised if he doesn't win the Oscar (supporting role) for this performance.

Amy Adams also delivers another great performance as Micky's ballsy girlfriend Charlene. I have a soft spot for Amy and would love to see her win an Oscar someday, if not this year. But as much as I like her as an actress, I love her red carpet style even more. She's one of the most elegant actresses on the red carpet these days and there's something about her that always makes me smile. These beautiful images above are from a 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, shot by photographer Norman Jean Roy. I love the lighting and the simplicity of them and also love how Amy's fabulous wavy red hair really pops out.
