2013 CFDA Fashion Awards

The 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards took place last night and amongst the winners were Proenza Schouler (Womenswear), Phillip Lim (Accesory), Tim Blanks (Media) and Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy (International). It's very unlike me not to have gone through all the photos of the event yet but I didn't stay up for it and haven't had time this morning. But from what I've seen so far my favourite looks of the night were Miranda Kerr in Proenza Schouler, Kerry Washington in Jason Wu, Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs and Erin Wasson in Alexander Wang. Still can't get over those cutout Wang designs - just brilliant.

May '13

This month it rained a LOT. I love rainy days but even for me this was a bit much. I surprised everyone by taking on a new hobby though: baking. I have yet to taste anything I've baked myself but I've really enjoyed spending hours and hours in the kitchen. Who would have thought. Oh, and that poorly snapped "selfie" there in the middle shows my film premiere outfit from earlier this month. It's a shame I don't have a better pic to show you from that evening 'cause it was by far my favourite look of mine of this month. Anyway, bring on June! (Instagram @ fash_n_chips)

Festival de Cannes 2013

Cannes Film Festival 2013 is in full swing and I'm just trying catch up on all the latest news today. 'The Great Gatsby' opened the Festival on Wednesday and I actually went to see this film myself when it premiered here on Thursday - big disappointment! I had been looking forward to this one for such a long time (who hasn't?!) There had been a bunch of Baz Luhrmann films I really enjoyed in the past but I think 'The Great Gatsby' was a bit of a miss. The first hour of the film (and Tobey Maguire's entire performance) was a complete snoozefest and a lot of the 3D stuff didn't really work for me either. I think Leonardo DiCaprio is a great choice to play Jay Gatsby but I wish he could have done so in a different film. Anyway, red carpet wise it apparently was a rainy opening night for the Festival but that didn't stop Film Festival jury member Nicole Kidman from shining in her amazing Dior Couture dress, she was by far my favourite of the night. You can watch a video of that evening below. Other red carpet favourites so far: Samantha Barks in Dior and Audrey Tautou in Yin Yiqing Couture. Now, as for dresses I would still like to see on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this week: THIS Alexis Mabille Couture dress, THIS Alexander McQueen dress, THIS J. Mendel dress and THIS Elie Saab Couture dress.

2013 MET Costume Institute Gala

So the annual MET Costume Institute Gala took place in New York yesterday and the theme of this year's exhibit, which opens to the public on May 9th, is ”Punk: Chaos to Couture”. It will come as no surprise to you that I'm not exactly an expert in punk, but I did of course notice who did and did not stick to the theme at last night's event. I watched the red carpet livestream on vogue.com and some of my favourite looks of the night were Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Haute Couture, Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne in Burberry, Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney, Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture and Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior Haute Couture. In celebration of the Costume Institute Benefit, Moda Operandi will hold a Spotlight event, beginning tomorrow, that will enable women to purchase select looks worn by celebrities on the event's red carpet such as Gisele Bundchen, Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson, Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Wilde, among others, and designed by today’s most established and vanguard designers. Moda Operandi previously announced the eagerly anticipated exclusive punk collection that debuted on May 2nd. The collection of over 100 items includes new and exclusive pieces by designers such as Balmain, Givenchy, Prabal Gurung, Thom Browne, and Vivienne Westwood; in addition to one-of-a-kind pieces, rare vintage fashion, and art objects. You can find it HERE.
